It’s time to pause and time to post two points:
(1) When my daughter called last night to share updates on my premie grandson’s progress, she had this to report:
The only person who so far has been able to get the wee one to take his entire feeding at one time turned out to be his grandfather (my ex). Grandpa has had a cold and had to wait until fully recovered to enter the premie ward and hold his first grandchild. He arrived at feeding time, and proceeded to perfectly orchestrate a balance of tenderness, encouragement and stimulation that helped wee one to retain wakefulness long enough to consume his whole bottle.
My point? Men have their place in newborn lives (and children’s!)!
(2) It’s fun to paint a fence in southwestern desert style. One can transform very old, dry and weathered boards in less than 20 minutes with a cup of paint mixed with more than a fair share of water!
