Mother’s letter to her mother, dated October 7, 1957 Monday:
I bought John a heavy Arctic parka plus fur hood that can be turned into collar by unzipping it, really nice, a slate blue, for only 10.98.
Linda’s is beautiful – I almost didn’t get it because it has white fur cuffs but couldn’t resist and it’s washable. It’s turquoise blue, also heavy, nylon quilted inside, hood too, lined with white fur which also converts into collar – it’s darling, darling – I love it and it’s pretty enough for her to wear to town or Sunday school. Actually I’m told everything stays clean and bright in snow. She thinks it’s pretty and looked pretty in it yesterday!
