*1960 (ish) – Building the Second Mountain Homestead Road

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I love these pictures.  I posted the one of my father and oldest brother separately, but am also putting it here because this is the context it was taken in.

I look at these and I can hear the ‘heavy metal’ sound of the diesel cat as it growls and purrs, depending on the demands of the job.  I can smell exhaust, hear crashing brush, smell sweet churned earth — even though I’m not at all sure I was here this day.

I don’t know who took these pictures.  So many, many things my oldest brother got to do with father.  I envy that — not that I would ever wish my brother had not had those precious experiences with our father — I just so wish I could have had them, too.

How many things girls are deprived of!!  And eventually we are supposed to be convinced that was the way we wanted things to be?  I don’t THINK SO!

nothing written on this one -- I say, looks like a road to me! A summer one, anyway!
