+FRONT ADOBE GARDEN FINISHED

+++++++++++++++++++++++

This last post on the adobe work, +MORE MUD WORK — ADOBE CONTINUES

shows what the front west yard looked like as I began work on it.  Here I am posting pictures of the front dug out and finished, planted, drip irrigation in, as I wait for something to grow now!  I am working my way down the west side of the house, but stubbed my right thumb and sprained it on Sunday so am taking a break!

starting the northwest corner, honeysuckle on left (now moved) and jasmine on street side
climbing roses and trellis (honeysuckle gone), yard dug below the Bermuda grass 'line'
my little 'fields' with walkways are planted with green manure winter crop, hairy vetch and winter rye
yellow roses will climb over their trellis, my 3 planted miniature fields
new garden on west side planted for winter under plum tree - adobe wall also from front yard dirt (I ran out!)
snapdragons under plum tree on west (I put adobe on its root suckers - will they stop growing?)
4" deep adobe walkway down west looking south, most dirt from front went here (my strange wooden fence!)
took out the quince, west side of house looking north (back door) - and then sprained my thumb here pulling boards off fresh adobe 'ring'
north - front - looking west - dark pots = left apple, right is lilac, not sure where to plant these yet
last winter's snap returned in bucket

  1. It looks incredible! And how did you get that snapdragon back? It looks like an annual.

How do you feel when you look at it?

    Lisa

    • The snap IS an annual, just survived – and the yellow is my favorite! Maybe next summer I will get seeds for winter plants started early enough now that I have the irrigation.

When I look at the results seems like someone else did it – like I can’t really remember either what it looked like before or who did it all. Common response for my life.

It reminds me of drawing with b & w pencil — the adobe brown in contrast to green. TOO MANY WEEDS when the rains come, just impossible to manage all the soil in the yard without confining where things can grow. I love my little fields! The rye has sprouted – at first glance when I noticed the green against the soil I thought it was moss!

Now I want EVERYTHING in my surroundings to be that neat! Easier said than done! Summer moisture has sunk into the earth way below the surface, so to continue outside work I have to soak soak soak with hose – water soon disappears, takes lots of it – not sure what to do next!

  2. What amazing progress, Linda! I truly think it’s all quite beautiful and so different from the gardening I do here in Seattle. Very sorry to hear about your sprained thumb, though.

  3. Speechless!!

Unbelievable amount of work leading to transformation. It is going to be so great to see this in person in just a couple months! I love the geometric shapes, and all of the walls. And it is cool how the irrigation line gets laid in. Great work Momma!!! (Hope the thumb is all better very soon.) XOXOX

    • I used up all the front dirt and it about went exactly where I needed/wanted it, but now heading to back corner (south) of west side, need more dirt and have to get from back yard, which is all dry and hard as a rock! Not much ‘free’ dirt in back, either – wish I could easily get to the no-man’s zone behind my back fence and in front of the Mexican border wall!

Yes, will be wonderful to have you guys walk the walk! Am thinking the wooden coyote you mentioned needs to go out there somewhere! Thumb is better, not 100%
