I am coming to the conclusion that those with a Borderline Personality Disorder are the most likely group of parents to severely abuse their children — and are especially at risk for picking out one single child to be The Chosen One for the worst of their abuse.

Personality disorder can be conceived as the result of a disruption of the development of self. This thoroughly updated edition of The Metaphor of Play examines how those who have suffered such disruption can be treated by understanding their sense of self and the fragility of their sense of existence.
Based on the Conversational Model, this book demonstrates that the play of a pre-school child, and a mental activity similar to it in the adult, is necessary to the growth of a healthy self. The three sections of the book: Development, Disruption and Amplification and Integration introduce such concepts as the expectational field, paradoxical restoration, reversal, value and fit, and coupling, amplification and representation.

Stop the Storm 
Wow, this is a lot of books! If you can tell me just what you’re looking for, I can help you winnow them down to a managable level.
Some of this are appropriate for laymen and some are really for clinicians and people may not get a lot out of them. And for some reason, some of the better books are at the end. One of them you didn’t recommend is one that I would. And almost none of them talk about the effect of a borderline parent. Understanding the Borderline Mother is probably the most exhaustive in that regard.
There is a great deal of info on the Internet, too, for free, if you know which sites are the best. Mine is http://www.BPDCentral.com. NEABPD.org has a ton of scientific info about the brain; look at the videotape archive.

Thank you, Randi! First of all I was looking for the ‘lay of the land’ as far as what information is available to lay people concerned with Borderline Personality Disorder, particularly from the perspective of those of us who suffered at their severely abusive hand.
I very much appreciate your offer of assistance! These are the titles that appeared on Amazon.com simply under the search heading there of ‘Borderline’. I wanted readers to realize that they have access to other readers’ comments in the reviews because I thought perhaps when they saw and recognized their own feelings and concerns reflected in those words it might encourage them to turn to the books themselves for education and insight.
I would post here any revised reading list if you would like to send me one, with your name byline if that would be OK with you. Even though some of the clinical books might be difficult for readers to grasp, I wanted them to realize that they have that choice. Very, very few people can actually access appropriate therapy — and that is a sad fact, but a fact nonetheless. We are left trying to fend for ourselves!
Without the right information we are left for our lifetimes flailing around in the dark without words to describe or understand what happened to us and why.
