18 is living in poverty; 21.3

percent of children under 6 live

in poverty

Over half (53.3 percent) of

children growing up alone with

their mother are living in poverty

More than one in five children

(22.5 percent) live in families

who are food insecure – meaning

they struggle against hunger and

report not having enough to eat

Nearly 10 percent of children

lack health insurance—over

7 million children

Only one out of every seven

eligible children receives child

care assistance and the care

that children have access to is of

dubious quality
